Lewis Hamilton outgunned Fernando Alonso for today's crucial Sao Paulo race then revealed the title rivals had buried the hatchet over their long-running feud
Incredibly, the McLaren ace admitted he would even be team-mates with the Spaniard again.
Hamilton qualified fourth, a place ahead of the Ferrari driver he needs to beat to get back on level terms in the title battle.
And he vowed to go for broke to make up the 21 point deficit to Alonso in the penultimate round of the world championship.
Rookie Nico Hulkenberg made mugs of the entire grid by grabbing Williams' first pole in over five years to save his F1 career.
Hamilton said it was time to forgive and forget the bitter battle in 2007 that cost them both the title.
He reflected: "If he wins it he deserves to walk in the company of the great names of the past.
"You are going to be very hard put to find someone beat him on raw talent.
"I would have no problems having him as a team-mate but I'm happy with the way I have things now.
"When he comes to Zurich he texts me every now and then to meet up."
Jenson Button, who qualified in 11th, said: "I've started from worse positions and done okay but I'm disappointed.
"I am so far behind Lewis it's going to be pretty difficult to play a supporting role for him."
