Abu Dhabi is set to help Bulgaria join the Formula One calendar.
According to reports, an economic cooperation agreement was signed this week between the Bulgarian economy minister and the Emirates Associated Business Group, a state-owned Abu Dhabi company.
Standart News and Sofia news agency Novinite claim the agreement involves construction of a Formula One circuit at the former air base at Dobroslavtsi, 15 kilometres from the Bulgarian capital.
The agreement would see Abu Dhabi pay for construction of the circuit, with the land provided by Bulgaria.
The press office of the Bulgarian economy ministry confirmed the news.
2012 is slated as a possible Grand Prix debut date, but the reports said a proposal is late being lodged with the FIA.

Kimi's columns: TO THE TARMAC WITH FEELING!
Kimi Bulgaria preview in Finnish
The break in June came and went. We chilled out a bit and did some work too.
It was a good break. Now it feels like starting a new season again.
At this point we go to tarmac. It doesn't help that I have been hammering tracks all my life. Driving rally on tarmac is a completely different deal than driving on the track.
Somehow it just feels more familiar to me. There's more grip even though it changes all the time. I've been waiting for a tarmac rally and here it is now.
It's a fact but it's also a fact that the lead goes fast whether it's gravel or tarmac.
After Portugal I drove one rally in Italy and tested for two days in France.
That Italian small rally served it's purpose well. It was my first tarmac rally with a WRC-car and I was pleased with the result. We found the speed immediately, got some touch into the car and to the right racing circumstances. It was important that we could practice notes and making them on tarmac.
Then we also had a good test. Everything worked. I got a lot more self-confidence and touch in the car. The feelings were best so far.
The grip is more even on tarmac but when you cut the corners with a rally car the grip changes all the time. It's the same on all surfaces.
Turkey was the first new place for everybody and we did well. It has been my best rally so far. Bulgaria is also a new place for everybody just like Turkey was. It probably helps us a little but let's just keep the goals the same.
First we have to get to the chequered flag and feel better that the car is mine.
Let's see after that what the result is.
It would be important to find a good rhythm right from the first stage. The dudes in the lead already have the experience in the back of their head so they will immediately go fast. The routine comes only after we have had enough rally kilometers.
I can tell you that much that it's fun. I have the feeling that I'm learning more all the time. After Bulgaria the tests for Jyskälä starts. And then we drive our home race. These are the highlights of the season.
At this time of year drivers are taken and brought into every place in the rumour mills. The circus is the same in F1 as it is in WRC too. I don't stress about them at all. We make decisions when it's time for it. I guess I will be driving somewhere next year too....

Will the practice pay off for Citroën Juniors?

Citroen Junior team drivers Sebastien Ogier and Kimi Raikkonen could be on course for their best team result of the year so far as they return to WRC competition this week with a rally which should suit them both down to the ground.
Rally Bulgaria (9 - 11 July) is the first of four asphalt rallies from the seven which remain this year. And in order to prepare for the strong asphalt bias in the second half of the season, the Citroën Junior Team has been testing in France and also took part in the Rally della Lanterna in Italy.
“This has allowed our drivers to stay match fit so that they are in the best possible position heading into the second half of the season,” explained team manager Benoit Nogier. “We have been working on how to get the best use and performance out of Pirelli’s new tyres. This experience will be very useful for the rallies still to come.
” As the roads will be new for all the World Rally Championship competitors, the Citroën Junior Team crews expect to suffer less from their comparative lack of experience relative to the other crews.
Sebastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia, the winners of the recent Rally of Portugal continued their winning streak on the Rally della Lanterna (read our earlier story). “That was a different type of thing, but it’s all good for the confidence,” said Ogier, who is currently second in the World Championship standings. “Rally Bulgaria will be new for everyone so we are at less of a disadvantage even though we still lack experience.
From what we know the roads will be fast and quite flowing with a lot vegetation at the side of the stages. A lot of the corners will be hidden so it will be extremely important to have good pace notes.
” Ogier continued: “The second half of the season might not be so easy for us. The goal for this first asphalt rally will be to make progress and again get closer to the frontrunners, while hoping that we can challenge for a podium.
” The best result for Kimi Räikkönen and Kaj Lindström so far has been fifth in Turkey, and now they get to discover a new surface. “Now we start a new chapter,” said the former F1 World Champion. “After snow and gravel, here we are on asphalt. It’s something that I’m really looking forward to. I had a really good feeling during the tests and I hope to be able to show that on the roads in Bulgaria.”

Räikkönen ready for action after successful asphalt test

Former Grand Prix star Kimi Raikkonen has been encouraged by an extremely successful two-day asphalt test in the south of France, as he prepares to make his WRC competition debut on sealed surfaces.
Raikkonen, who won the Formula One World title in 2007, has only ever driven his Citroen Junior Team C4 WRC on gravel, with a best result so far of fifth on the Rally of Turkey in April.
However, both he and his team believe that the Finn has turned a corner after running his car in asphalt specification for the first time: a surface he is much more familiar with from his years of circuit racing.
He led for the majority of the Rally della Lanterna, a small practice event that the team undertook in Italy, and he has also been quick in Citroen’s latest asphalt test prior to the Rally Bulgaria at the beginning of next month.
The two-day test took place on narrow asphalt roads close to Mazamet, in the south of France, with Raikkonen and his team mate Sebastien Ogier using the car normally earmarked for Italian privateer Felice Re - who also took part in the Rally della Lanterna.
Observers reported that Raikkonen and Ogier were closely matched on pace, with the Finn appearing the more aggressive of the two. Citroen Junior Team manager Benoit Nogier commented: “We expected Kimi to feel more confident on asphalt, as this is more his background, and we’re very pleased to note that this appears to be the case.”
However, Raikkonen will face quite different conditions in Bulgaria, as the roads are expected to be more broken up in places and notably faster. This should still play to Raikkonen’s strengths as in Formula One he always favoured the quicker circuits, with his favourite track being Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.

The Junior Team is continuing its preparation

Big week for Citroen leading two tests simultaneously: one with the official team and one with the junior team. In the Tarn as the team continued its preparation for asphalt rally after his participation in Lanterna in Italy.
The special provision by the organization, always effective, allowed the junior team to prepare Bulgaria with road conditions near the site of the next round of the championship. Ogier and Raikkonen have used the C4, all blue, rented by PH Re Felice at the Lanterna .
Sebastien Ogier took the wheel Tuesday and Wednesday. Weather conditions were wet, the pilot tested the Gap boundary starting at the top to tail. Yesterday and today, Raikkonen took place aboard the C4.
The Finnish company has aligned with the times a very aggressive style. Always on the attack, he was able to enjoy warm weather to make better lap qu'Ogier on the same stage.
Often the limit, Kimi seems more comfortable on this surface after good result Lanterna . While it raises the question about the future of Raikkonen: WRC again or return to F1 ? It was noted that the Finnish seemed interested in the new deal for WRC 2011 ...
