Mark Webber is happy to go for the title alone
Mark Webber does not expect to have any help from team-mate Sebastian Vettel as he attempts to secure the championship in the final five races of the year.
Webber is currently at the top of the drivers' standings and 24 points ahead of his Red Bull team-mate. Team principal Christian Horner has said neither driver will be given preference while Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko admitted the team would "sit down all together" and "assess our championship chances" after Monza.
However, Webber insists he will not be asking for any help in his bid for championship glory.
"Help from Vettel? It depends on the team," he said. "Rest assured I have not asked for anything. It's the same at McLaren."
Webber finished sixth at the Italian Grand Prix, behind Vettel in fourth. After the race he said: "We sniffed around just getting a few points. We could have capitalised."
But he has now revised his assessment.
"I was probably a little bit harsh after the race," he told The Australian. "Looking back on the race there is not a great deal we could have done better."
One element Red Bull has vowed to improve is race starts, after two consecutive poor getaways for Webber.
"We need to look at it very carefully," Horner told L'Equipe. "Our starts early in the season were very good, but for a few races now they have not been."
