FIA Gala to switch between countries

The FIA Gala, Formula 1's annual prize-giving event in December, will be hosted in different countries every year from now on, the sport's governing body has announced. This year's presentation will be staged in Monte-Carlo once again, however, in order to thank it as the traditional setting for the ceremony.

With Jean Todt having taken presidency of the FIA from Max Mosley in Decemeber, a number of changes were proposed via a Thursday statement following a meeting of its World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) in Bahrain.

With Monaco - which has hosted the event for over a decade - set to stage the Gala this year, Force India Chairman and Team Principal Vijay Mallya is already pushing for his country to host the event in 2011, which is also likely to be the year the nation hosts its first F1 race.

'This offer was warmly welcomed by the World Council, however, the FIA President confirmed that the opportunity to host the event must be open to all the FIA's membership throughout the world,' the FIA statement explains.
